On April 30, Washington Street School received a generous donation of two red maple trees from the Franklin Square Civic Association in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day.
Members of the Civic Association spoke with students about the vital role trees play in supporting the local ecosystem, providing habitat for wildlife, sustaining pollinators and offering shade during the warmer months. Red maple trees were chosen because they are suited to the local environment and seasonal changes of Long Island.
